A Victorian Garnet And Pearl Lizard Brooch
About the Item
A Victorian demantoid garnet and pearl lizard brooch, the body set with a central row of graduating round faceted demantoid garnets and two half pearl-set rows on the side, with faceted ruby-set eyes and half pearl-set legs, all set in yellow gold, circa 1890, measuring approximately 5.7 x 1.8cm, gross weight 6.8 grams.
This antique brooch is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold with 15ct gold pin.
This charming Victorian lizard brooch comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This sweet little lizard features a body set with lustrous seed pearls and a line of green demantoid garnets running down its back. Its eyes are two glittering rubies, and its body is encased in yellow gold. The green of the garnets and the red of the rubies contrast beautifully with the gold and pearls, making this an eye-catching and delightful piece.
