Cufflinks Platinum, Essex Crystal, Fine Reverse Painting under Rock Crystal

About the Item

Cufflinks with Essex Crystals, these cufflinks are of finely painted dogs on mother of pearl and placed under Rock Crystal, these cufflinks are platinum with platinum dog bone elements as the other side of the paintings. Rarely do we find such well executed pieces and in platinum. 24 mm round. Cufflinks are generally worn by men - except in the 19th century when they were also worn by women. For a jeweled decoration, cufflinks have always been a popular accessory. Cufflinks have a fair amount of complexity in terms of criteria for selection. Here are a quick dozen reasons from which men pick 1 or 2 as the reasons for favoring a pair of cufflinks. -overall size, -weight, -type of gemstone -how the cufflink looks against solid color background presented by the cuff, and -the personality offered by the motif of the cufflink -the distance or "throw" of a cufflink as between its back and its front. This criteria has a lot to do with whether or not the gentleman has a large or a small wrist size -certainly the color or type of material - gold, platinum, silver, wood stainless steel, and carved stones, -the time period - "I'm Edwardian", "Just call me Deco", "I wouldn't touch Victorian, but I adore Georgian" "Nothing but Belle Epoch for me", etc., -whether or not the cufflinks are signed -ease of application and removal -and as women would always judge - how a cufflink would "go with" a particular set of shirts, sport coats or suits, and -who gave them to him! Today, a preponderance of jewelry is machine made in large factories around the world with abundant and obvious suspicions as to its enduring qualities using not only inferior stones, but also man made stones and treated stones utilizing artificial substances. Alternatively, these expressive cufflinks in platinum are well executed and an unusual motif. All items sold are accompanied by a detailed Statement of Value by our gemologist, as well as all original gemological documentation, if specified in the listing. As always, we guarantee all pieces to be exactly as represented. Each piece of jewelry arrives in a gift-wrapped fine presentation box. • Cufflinks English Victorian Essex Crystal
    Located in Southbury, CT
Carved crystal cabochons are painted on the reverse to portray two little black and white terriers. Perhaps the only thing more wonderful in the world than a pair of carved crystal cufflinks from England depicting man's best friend is a pair of carved crystal cufflinks from England depicting man's best friend in a beastly mood. Which is why I laugh every time I look at these cufflinks. From a distance, they're quite sophisticated. Perfectly appropriate for a weekend at Balmoral, should you ever receive an invitation. Only upon closer inspection can you see the tiny little frowns on each dog's face. In addition, the eyes look wide open in shock or alarm, as if the food bowl has inexplicably levitated from the floor and is now hovering above the refrigerator, entirely out of reach. The crystals have a diameter of approximately 15.66 mm and the gold toggles 25.64 mm long by 5.96 mm at their widest point, so these cufflinks should fit a range of different-sized holes. I live with three dogs myself so I am admittedly biased, but these antique English cufflinks are, I think, maybe the greatest pair of cufflinks ever created. They even come in their original box. Made near 1860, the cufflinks are hallmarked "WJH." The 18K metal fineness mark and other assay marks are less legible. The fact that these cufflinks have remained with their original and quite clever (you'll see when you remove the 'links) case is surely one of the reasons they are in such fine condition. I have passed on so many pairs of canine and equestrian-themed Essex crystal...
