  • Art Deco Gold and Moonstone Cufflinks Dress Set by Sansbury & Nellis
    Located in San Rafael, CA
A truly exceptional set of cufflinks and three shirt studs featuring spiral-engraved yellow gold and cabochon-cut moonstones made in the early 20th Century by the highly respected American firm of Sansbury & Nellis. The cufflinks each boast two hallmarks of the Art Deco era: spiral "Op Art" engraving and large, plump moonstones. Both cufflinks are signed with the maker's mark, S-N, and 14K indicating solid, 14 karat yellow gold. One half of each pair - the side with the moonstones - measures 13.2mm (just over 1/2 inch) in diameter. These are attached via figure-8 connectors to the spiral-engraved backs, which measure 13.6mm in diameter. The three shirt studs each feature a single, cabochon-cut moonstone and measure 5mm diameter in front and 11.2mm in back. Together the entire set weighs 12.2 grams. The cufflinks and studs are in very good antique condition. The gold has darkened slightly from age in a few spots, and the adhesive holding the moonstones in place has oxidized slightly with time and is visible upon close examination. All of these are considered desirable "patina" in antique jewelry. The overall integrity of the pieces is excellent - there are no chips, cracks or loose stones. Pieces of this quality would be very expensive to produce today. A rare chance to own an antique dress set...
