Geometric earrings designed by Giampaolo Babetto (1947-).
Beautiful geometric ear-clips made in three dimensions, created by the Italian artist and goldsmith Giampaolo Babetto, back in the 1984. These sculptural earrings has been designed in the shapes of two folded sheets made up in solid yellow gold of 18 karats. All surfaces are treated with a delicate Florentine brushed finish made in two directions, creating a fantastic trompe l'oeil effect. They are fitted at the reverse with omega backs for fastening clips. The posts for pierced ears can be easily added.
Weight: 17.20 Grams, (11.03 Dwt.).
Measurements: 31 mm by 22 mm by 4 mm (1.22 x 0.87 x 0.16 Inches).
Hallmarks: Engraved by the artist himself and signed, "G. BABETTO .750". " 1984".
Giampaolo Babetto
He was born in 1947 in Padua Italy. He has had a marked influence on the avant-garde goldsmiths’ scene since the late 1960s. He is one of the protagonists of the Padua School and has significantly molded the image of art jewelry in Italy and around the world. Babetto’s work reflects contemporary art movements such as concrete art, minimal art, kinetic or op art in a unique, purist and plastic manner. Made up of different abstract elements, broken down into modular units, or rendered moveable through the use of ingenious links, Babetto’s works have a tectonic character like mini architectural pieces or mini sculptures. As a jewelry artist who has received a number of awards, he prefers working in gold due to its stable malleability and its warm sheen which he combines with unconventional materials such as plastic or glass, dusting the surface with a velvet-like pigment in luminous reds or blues or using enamel and age-old Niello-based techniques. He has already been classified a mixed media artist, working not only on jewelry but also on silver objects, furniture design and architectural projects. His oeuvre reflects the uncompromising demands he places on his own handling of the various artistic disciplines, combined with a systematic approach and love of experimentation. With his expressive but nevertheless very wearable pieces, Babetto has become one of the most influential international jewelry artists.

Note: Florentine or Fiorentini finish is a crosshatched decorative technique engraved into the surface of a precious metal. It is usually applied by a hand tool and consists a series of parallel lines engraved in two directions perpendicular to each other.
