About the Item
These gorgeous circa 1970s Hobé Aurora Borealis crystal cluster clip-on earrings are an extremely collectible piece of design history, and are as stylistically relevant today as when they were first designed. The Hobé hallmark is signed on the clip-on back of each earring.
Each earring measures 1.25" tall and 1" wide and has clip-on earring backs.
Hobé was founded by goldsmith Jacques Hobé in France in 1887. It was originally a fine jewelry line, with a costume jewelry division added in the 1920's by his son, William Hobé.
Hobé was hired by Ziegfeld Follies to design jewelry for their costumes and it is rumored that this is where the term "costume jewelry" originated. To this day, Hobe is one of the most coveted brands for vintage costume jewelry, with their beaded necklaces being one of their most sought after designs.
