Antique Victorian Jet Pendant Earrings
About the Item
A striking pair of antique Victorian jet earrings from about 1860. The earrings are very modern in shape with an oval jet circa surrounding a longer dart suspended from a round ball. The whole earring hangs from the ear from a 14k gold wire. The earrings are very light, have incredible movement and dimension. "Jet" jewelry refers to the fossilized wood that the earrings and jet jewelry is made from. The polished and carved wood was massively popular type of jewelry during the Victorian era, and often used to make mourning jewelry. These earrings date from this time period after Victoria herself lost her husband and the entire country went into mourning. Today these earrings are lovely reminders of times or yore, while at the sometime being modern and hip. The earrings are a little longer than 2 inches from the top of the black ball to the bottom. They are 7/8 inch wide at the widest point.
