About the Item

These beautiful and gracefully proportioned earrings were made literally a century apart. Eytan bought one earring, probably dating somewhere between 1910 and 1930, then used it to make a mold and produce a virtually perfect match. The differences are undetectable, but we'll tell you anyway. First, the venting on the sides is slightly different. Second, the diamonds are different. The original's smaller diamonds are single cuts, so Eytan was able to use up some of his old single cuts, but once he ran out, he used full cuts. The largest stone on both earrings is full cut, but the cut of the older stone is, well, older. Parsing out these differences requires a loupe and an interest in this sort of thing that you probably don't share, so suffice it to say that no one will know one of your earrings is a modern clone. Measurements: Length: 1.55" (39mm) Width (at widest point): 0.44" (11mm) > Note that our earring mannequin is life-sized. Weights: There are 58 diamonds in total, ranging from 0.01 carats to 0.08 carats. The diamond weight on the new earring is 0.508 carats, so we can safely assume the total diamond weight for the pair is 1 carat. The earrings weigh 8.4 grams, most of which is platinum (a scant 0.7 grams is diamond and 14K gold weight). Marks: The original earring bore no helpful marks -- either as to metal purity or maker -- that might have helped with narrowing down a production date (or even figuring out where they were made). Eytan engraved "14K" on the levers and "PT" on the sides, but didn't sign "his" earring since he didn't design it.
