About the Item
This single earring's 16 individual parts were sculpted in wax and cast individually in solid 20k then assembled with meticulous care to create this jaunty skeleton: unrivaled in its naturalistic movement and artistic sensibility.
RIMA JEWELS' artistic language is one in which jewelry and gold smithing is deeply informed by historic painting and modernist sculpture. Rocío Inès' formal tendencies in the studio are loose and sculptural with an aim to preserve the most minute gestural finishes with a tendency to eschew the overworked and overly finished forms that typify fine jewelry. Her approach to her studio jewelry takes its cues from modernist sculptors such as Rodin and Giacometti who, among others, favored looser more exploratory forms and textures inherent to material and process.
In addition to these aesthetic concerns RIMA JEWELS' work also embodies a playful and conceptual self awareness of the many roles jewelry is assigned in society and on the body; both muse and distiller of the stylistic trends, talismanic amulet to assuage society's desires, worries, and realities of their respective époque. In this regard RIMA JEWELS' masterful rendition of a memento mori jewel becomes less of a nod to a historic tradition and more a prescient and wholly relevant contemporary jewel. Memento mori--

RIMA JEWELS
RIMA JEWELS is the cumulative work and ongoing explorations of contemporary studio jeweler Rocío Inès Marsyas' metal smithing practice that began nearly two decades ago as an apprentice to a fourth generation jeweler. The collections, limited edition pieces, and custom works marry an array of interests including the early history of alchemical practice, Roman antiquities and the richly textured history of vanitas paintings and their jewelry counterparts. Each collection and individual piece is meticulously crafted in Rocío Inès' Manhattan studio with the delicacy, care, and discerning design considerations true to the artist's imprimatur. Textures, contours, and the minutiae particular to the materials used are celebrated and never overworked in Ms. Rocío Marsyas' atelier. RIMA JEWELS brings you into the fold by hinting at process while signaling to a variety of histories and their contemporary relevance.
