Antique 19th century gold, coral and pearl dangle earrings

About the Item

These antique beauties were made by an expert hand most likely for a refined dame who socialized in upper circles. They appear to be French, of the Napoleon III era, although the 14 karat gold content points to a later European production, from the period between the two world wars. The wire frames are thick and sturdy, etched ever so finely in geometric patterns. The coral cabochons are bolted in place securely (see the back of the earrings) and inlaid with delicate seed pearl surrounded by a frill of gold. They are tomato-red in color, a wonderful color softened by the white pearls. The body of the earrings is made of 14kt gold (acid tested). It appears that the ear wires were replaced in later times and are 14 kt (stamped with the 585 hallmark). The earrings dangle gracefully from the ear and look both modern and exotic. They measure 2" by 0.625" and weigh 7.3 grams. An exquisite pair of earrings to add to your wardrobe! In excellent heirloom condition. A few coral beads are pockmarked, which is a natural feature often found in coral (only visible upon very close inspection).
