Antique Chinese Mutton Fat Jade Earrings Lotus Flowers Vases Gilt Metal Feathers
About the Item
These rare earrings were handcrafted in China in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. A finely carved pair of vases is cut out of mutton fat jade. The vessels show metal ornaments in the center. The vases are fixed to cut out backs. They are decorated with gilt metal rims. A variety of flower and leaf ornaments such as lotus flowers and Iris are arranged in the vases. One earring is missing a petal of the lotus flower. The flower ornaments once were covered entirely with kingfisher feathers. The ornaments have lost a great deal of the feathers, a few feathers remain. The metal work is in good condition and the hooks are original.
