Pair of Sterling Silver Aesthetic Movement Earrings
About the Item
A wonderful pair of Aesthetic Movement shepherd's hook earrings crafted from sterling silver. The matched pair feature typical Aesthetic Movement motifs like the combination of naturalistic elements such as birds and water with structured rigid segments, fusing the two with a sense of balance. Heavily influenced by the orient, the Aesthetic Movement was most widely seen in decorative arts, jewellery and architecture during the second half of the 19th century. We would date the pair to circa 1870, the height of the Aesthetic Movement, and at the price are a wonderful addition to a jewellery collection without breaking the bank.
Marked - unmarked however have been XRF tested as sterling silver

- Victorian Sterling Silver 'Amity Eternity Infinity' LocketLocated in Brisbane, QLDA wonderfully large sterling silver Victorian locket with an elaborate 'Amity, Eternity, Infinity' monogram to the centre front. The oval highly polished locket hangs from a tapering but large bale which allows either a large chain or bolt ring clasp to slide through with ease. To the front of the piece is an elaborate 'AEI' monogram which has been applied over the top of the locket, however is original to the piece. This monogram is often seen in Victorian jewellery and stands for 'Amity, Eternity & Infinity'. The firmly closing locket features two windows inside with glass to place a photograph or lock of hair behind. The piece dates to circa 1890 and due to the lack of hallmarks is unlikely to be English, but perhaps American in origin. A gorgeous example of Victorian era silver jewellery which is still so wearable today.
