The story of Sassi - (gem)stones in Italian - begins with a gem, an aquamarine hidden in Renilde's jewellery case. This stone was bought years earlier for Hannah, who wanted to know her birthstone. When Hannah turned eighteen, her mother designed a necklace, inspired by a Roman piece, featuring the aquamarine with a contemporary twist. Both Hannah and Renilde were delighted with the gold necklace, and the workshop that crafted it was thrilled! They invited Renilde to create more pieces. Thus, Sassi was born. Renilde, with her Ph.D in art history and a passion for design, meticulously researches each piece. She draws inspiration from art, history and architecture, infusing these into her unique and timeless creations. The design is not complete until Hannah, an architecture student, provides her perspective. The mother-daughter duo works together until they are both satisfied with the final result. Renilde notes the influence of Hannah on their clients, as mothers often buy pieces that their daughters will also love and share, forging a special bond. Initially, Renilde lacked the knowledge to source gemstones, so she became a certified gemologist at IGI. Now, she passionately works with handpicked, cut-to-order gems sourced directly from lapidaries across the world. The vibrant colours and stunning combinations of these gems are a consistent theme in all Sassi's collections. Each Sassi piece is a testament to its unique craftsmanship, infused with captivating (his)tories.
