Victorian, 14 Karat Gold Basketweave & Turquoise Drop Earrings

About the Item
An excellent pair of 'bloomed' 14 karat yellow gold and turquoise drop earrings from the Victorian period. Crafted from 14 karat yellow gold the drop earrings have been 'bloomed' or 'coated' in a fine layer of pure gold to give the illusion that they are 22 or 24 karat gold, as often was done in the 1870s for archaeological revival pieces. The earrings are formed from shepherds hooks from which a basket weave gold medallion centres on a small cabochon of turquoise that is six claw set. From this medallion another larger version hangs below it from small jump rings meaning it dances with the movement of the wearer. Interestingly we believe one of these 1870s earrings has been remade at some stage during the last 150 years. It can be seen in the image showing the back of them that the construction is slightly different in the rear, however is not at all noticeable from the front, and only when taking the images have we discovered this interesting part of their history. These earrings truly are some of the nicest Victorian period gold jewellery we have seen in quite some time and despite their age have a modern look and feel.
