Emeralds are naturally porous and inclusive stones, with surface reaching fractures and in order to improve its clarity, it is a common and widely accepted practice in the industry to fill those fractures with oil or resin. Those materials are transparent and have a refractive index approximative to that of the Emerald.
It results in a small improvement in the visual appearance of the Emerald, but it does not make major changes. For e.g., a heavily included Emerald will not look free of inclusions nor slightly included. It is important to highlight that those enhancements are not permanent and can be reversible at any time.
