NEON Blue Apatite, Large 10.72ct Cushion Cut
About the Item
Very Large 10.72ct Cushion Cut Neon Paraiba Blue Apatite. It truly has that Paraiba Blue color, and can be seen from 30 feet away with no problem! An incredible piece and the body color - Think of a bright neon Caribbean Ocean if you are unfamiliar with Paraiba Tourmaline. Apatite comes in a number of colors such as green, yellow, purple and various shades and brightness of blue. This bright blue and large size for this material is not often seen on the market due to the rarity. Also, this particular material tends to have visible inclusions, so having a larger gemstone of this particular color/species is not common. This gemstone does have small inclusions but the cutting and brilliance hides this fact; the photos and video is shot under magnification - typically inclusions can readily be seen under magnification, but in the closeup video, one might see some small things but when not under magnification, most would probably call it eye clean when looking face down towards the table. The deep greens/deep green blues are said to be change to a bright blue when heated. This has a checkerboard top, which provides flashes off the highly polished surface when any movement or tilting. The photos might not truly capture the color or life.
Apatite is a softer gemstone. It can be worn in a ring with care or perhaps better in a pendant or pin.
Always difficult to obtain true color in photos or videos - typically varies from what the eye sees. On our office laptop, the photos and video can range from slightly lighter or slightly deeper in blue, with a number that seem to be exactly the color one sees.

With prices of fine quality rough in Tourmaline and other species, it has become unaffordable for anything on the larger side. We encountered this beauty unexpectedly, as it was already faceted with a nice polish and literally caught our attention when in a case with minerals, as well as a small terminated crystal of similar color. The crystal itself would cut a smaller gemstone than this already faceted Tourmaline, and the price for the crystal was the price of the faceted Tourmaline. The color of the faceted gemstone was glowing whether it was indoor or diffused daylight. Since the gem was clean, had a good polish, well cut and priced below what one would normally expect, this had to be added to the All That Glitters inventory. We would describe this Tourmaline as a cushion, weighing 11.30cts(!), of a bright medium lizard green with hints of mint or light blue. Using a dichroscope on this gemstone, one can see both green and a light blue. The main body color is a glowing green with flashes/highlights of light blue or mint. The photo of the piece of rough is a similarly colored piece so you can have an idea of the color of the C and A/B axes.
