About the Item

An incredible piece of 1940s sterling silver Vintage Boucher jewellery depicting a clever take on the crest of wave. This vintage Boucher clip would have been worn originally as a fur clip. Crafted from solid sterling silver and invisibly set with crystals of exquisite coloring, emulating precious jewellery and in this case, emerald, diamond and sapphire. A fabulous high quality piece as you would expect from Boucher jewellery. Jewels by Marcel Boucher are without doubt, premiere examples of fine jewel imitations. The lengths these artists went to working with silver and glass during the 1930s & 40s in America were simply extraordinary. Such was the importance of the costume jewellery movement at this time and the desire of the movement to establish costume jewellery as an art form in its own right. Born in Paris, Marcel Boucher moved to NYC and founded his own company in 1937 and quickly made a name for himself creating individual works of wearable art. This particular piece by Boucher features a substantial rhodium plating over a solid sterling silver setting, imitating platinum and cleverly avoiding silver tarnishing. Clearly, no level of detail deemed too great for these incredible designers. The invisibly set glass emeralds and sapphires sit in a geometrical styled plaque that signals art deco influence, with a breaking wave atop. The wave and edging set with clear rhinestones or pastes in chaton and baguette cuts. This vintage Boucher pin is in excellent vintage condition, much like the day it was made, some 70 years ago and is clearly stamped Boucher and also Sterling. It measures a little over 3cm by 3cm and is cleverly three dimensional. A very classy, superb quality and eminently wearable Boucher jewel, depicting artfully and elegantly the 1930s 40s.
