Miriam Haskell 1960s Coral Glass Bead Vintage Necklace

About the Item

A lovely example of the Miriam Haskell company's beadwork and style, this necklace dates from the 1960s. Condition Report: Excellent The Details... This necklace features two strands of coral coloured glass beads and rondelles of varying sizes. They are interspersed with gilt metal, flower shaped spacers and gilt metal rondelles. The necklace features a decorative floral design at each end, made up of coral coloured glass beads wired onto a gilt metal filigree background. The necklace fastens with a hook and tail mechanism. The hook is detailed with a coral glass bead flower motif and the tail consists of an open-link chain detailed with coral glass beads. The necklace is signed - it has a 'MIRIAM HASKELL' cartouche stamped into a plaque on the reverse of one of the floral ends of the necklace and 'MIRIAM HASKELL' is also stamped onto the reverse of the hook. This necklace was most likely designed by Frank Hess for Miriam Haskell in the early 1960s. His jewellery was often layered, dimensional and asymmetric, as can be seen in this piece. Hess also favoured covering metal components with beading, which can be seen in the elaborately detailed ends on this necklace. Featuring so many significant hallmarks of such a prominent designer in the heritage of costumer jewellery - this necklace is a must have for connoisseurs of the past. Wear it With... This necklace would look beautiful placed on top of an ivory silk round neck top. Add jeans and a blazer for a casual, yet original, chic look. Additionally, its delicacy and pretty colourway would make it the perfect accompaniment to a wedding guest's look.
