Multi-Strand Yellow Gold Bead Necklace, 1960s

A stunning Mario Buccellati coral bead necklace featuring a diamond and 18k gold ornate clasp. This vintage Buccellati necklace is composed of ten coral strands with the beads of irregular sizes. The strands are bundled together by the gold barrel shape clasp. The clasp is a true piece of art portraying Buccellati’s best practices. It’s made of amazingly textured 18 karat yellow and white gold with a detailed floral design. The white gold leaves are adorned with rose cut diamonds. This clasp with a box closure can be worn upfront as a pendant. With coral getting extremely rare, this Buccellati coral necklace is a beautiful piece and a great investment as well. This fabulous multi-strand coral bead necklace was created by Mario Buccellati in Italy in the 1950's. It features ten strands of Mediterranean coral connected with a diamond and an 18 karat yellow and white gold clasp. The necklace has a lot of volume and can be worn with the clasp either on the back (more casual look) or on front/side (dressier look). It can be also worn as a bracelet. The coral beads measure from 5.5 - 4.6 mm to 2.9 - 2.4 mm. The vintage necklace measures 24" x ¾” (60 x 2 cm). The clasp measures 1-1/8" x 1" (3 x 2.5 cm). The necklace measures 158.5 grams. It is stamped with Mario Buccellati maker's mark, hallmark for 18 karat gold and country of manufacture. Mario Buccellati (1891-1965) established the first brand’s store in Milan in 1919. He was titled “the Prince of Goldsmiths” by poet Gabriele D’Annunzio because of an extraordinary ability to turn gold and silver into luxury art objects. This ability through the years has been the core of Buccellati’s style. Buccellati design is highly recognizable due to multiple engraving and piercing techniques applied to the pieces.
