6.61 carat blue moonstone, Akoya pearls on a handmade 14k necklace by G&G Studio
About the Item
Something old, something new, and something blue, all in a piece with as many possibilities as the moon has cycles. The base of this 38" long necklace is an upcycled rose and white gold vintage watch chain that was deconstructed and refashioned with silvery natural color Japanese Akoya cultured pears on delicate rose gold wire wraps. The off centered “centerpiece” was hand fabricated from 14k rose and white gold and features a 6.61 carat blue flash moonstone. The unique double clasp (original clasps to the vintage watch fob chain) design allows this necklace to be worn in countless different ways, and the asymmetry gives the classical beauty of this piece, a whimsical modern twist.
Double it up and wear the moonstone to the side or wear the necklace long either in the front or the back! You can even wear this piece as a bracelet!
This is part of Glitter and Gold's Upcycled collection, deconstructing vintage jewelry while adding modern and unique gems and elements.
Watch fob chains are of a particular interest of Mary Elizabeth's, where the manufacturing processes of the often intricate and unique chains are no longer in operation. By refurbishing and upcycling these rare chains we can bring the old to the new!
This piece was hand fabricated my Mary Elizabeth, and the 14k rose gold wire wraps were hand done by Caleah and Mary E together, just in time for a bridal magazine photo shoot! Not just for weddings however, this dreamy necklace can be worn for many occasions!

Glitter and Gold Studio
Glitter & Gold may be new (I opened my doors December 2021), but I’m not new to the art of creating custom jewelry. In 1994, starting out as an apprentice for my uncle at Foxfire Jewelers, I swept floors and washed the walls, working my way up to jewelry repair and then custom creation. I began building my craft as a custom jewelry designer, spending tens of thousands of hours “on the bench,” learning to fix, design, ethically source materials and gems, and ultimately create high-quality jewelry that stands the test of time. I’ve been lucky to have spent my entire career as a goldsmith working exclusively with and for small custom design studios, including Blue Heron Jewelry, Goldmine Design, MJB Jewelers, Scholdt, and more. It was a combined catalyst of the pandemic and my 50th birthday that fueled the spark to finally pursue my dream of opening my own studio — one where I could invite clients in to experience the art of creating unique and meaningful jewelry. Using 100% recycled precious metals, ethically sourced gemstones and diamonds, and focusing on small businesses as my vendors I’m able to make custom jewelry that supports our heart and home. Outside of creating unique hand crafted jewelry, I enjoy roller skating, gardening, face time “dates” with my daughter away at college, and spending time with my family. I live on beautiful Bainbridge Island, and love my ferryboat commute to work every day! I also run a delightful little Hobbit House Airbnb in our backyard!
