Gorgeous Yves Saint Laurent gold tone charms necklace from the 1980s. Each charm represents a symbol (with a meaning) that was dear to the heart of Yves Saint Laurent and that he has used all along his career on numerous occasion to adorn his clothes and jewelry, but also on his illustrations and famous postcards as Yves Saint Laurent was a renowned artist as well as an incredible fashion designer. The necklace features charms with a heart for love, a clover for good luck, a bird for freedom, a star, a moon, fleurs de lys (lilies flowers), a butterfly, and a massive square medallion adorned with YSL logo. This necklace was made by Robert Goossens, the iconoclastic jewelry maker who is known for his work with Chanel, Balenciaga, Schiaparelli and Rochas among others. The inspiration of Goossens is rooted in Byzantine, Maltese and Renaissance jewelry. He mastered the art of casting, engraving, and embossing semi-precious and simulated stones into gold and fine silver metal. The mid-70’s marks the beginning of Yves Saint Laurent and Robert Goossens collaboration who was suggested by Loulou de la Falaise. Eventually, Goossens created everything from hand mirrors for the YSL beauty institute to limited-edition perfume bottles. Their association lasted until Saint Laurent closed his couture house in 2002; Goossens signed the jewelry for the couturier’s final fashion show in 2002. This necklace is heavily gold plated in a deep yellow tone. The smallest charm measures .75 inches and the largest circle char, measures 1.5 inches.
