necklace and bracelet together made a long chain with 75 cm, weight total 12 grams, 7 very fine southsea and saltwater keshi pearls (6,3-12,45 mm), great natural goldcolor, AAA+, handmade chain in Japan, 750er Yellowgold, decorative round elements, lenghts approx. 54 and 21 cm History of South Sea cultured pearls: South Sea pearls originate in the white or gold-lipped Pinctada Maxima oyster (cultivated in the waters of Australia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand. In the Philippines, the oysters are still collected by "traditional" divers without any special equipment. Cultured core pearls are raised in isolated bays of the purest water.After 3 or 4 months an X-ray is taken of each oyster to confirm that the core has not been shed by the oyster.Once confirmed, the oysters come back to sea to continue breeding for another 2-3 years, through the long 2-3 year breeding period, South Sea pearls develop an exceptionally thick layer of nacre (from 2 to 6 millimeters). When removing the South Sea pearl from the oyster, pearl technicians take special care not to damage it. If the oyster is healthy, a new nucleus is implanted again - a process that can be repeated up to 4 times for a single oyster. Fine South Sea cultured pearls look just like natural pearls. Due to their rarity, their enormous size and their silky luster, South Sea pearls are traded at the highest prices. South Sea pearls are extremely rare for two important reasons: First, the Pinctada Maxima oyster is a wild species of oyster, so one can never be sure of the numbers available for farming. On the other hand, the breeding period is very long and, with all types of pearls, the probability that the pearl will become faulty increases the longer it is in the oyster. Because of this, large, round, non-faulty pearls are always extremely rare
