Austrian-Hungarian 1900 Enameled St George and the Dragon in 935 Sterling Silver

About the Item

Austro-Hungarian enameled Saint George and the dragon. Colorful three-dimensional piece, created during the period of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, back in the 1900. This necklace depict the figure of Saint George charging on a horse and killing the dragon with a long spear. It was carefully crafted in solid .935/.999 sterling silver and embellished with intricates applications of colorful enamels such; blue, white, green, black and red. Fitted with a links bale and a chain to wear as a necklace. Others: Five round white pearls of 1.5 mm and one River freeform white pearl. Weight: 25.7 Grams, (16.47 Dwt). Measurements: Lenght of 18 Inches (45.7 Cm) The sculpture is 55 mm by 36 mm (2.16 x 1.42 Inches). Note: The legend of Saint George and the Dragon tells that Saint George tamed and killed a dragon that demanded human sacrifices. The story goes that the dragon originally extorted tribute from the villagers. When they ran out of cattle and trinkets for the dragon, they began to deliver a human tribute once a year. Note: The Austro-Hungarian Empire, or simply Austria-Hungary, was a European state created in 1867 after the so-called Austro-Hungarian Compromise, which equated the status of the Kingdom of Hungary with that of the Austrian Empire, both under the same monarch. Ended in 1918 after the finish of the World War One. Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this piece is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the sterling silver. Very minor and insignificant loses to the enamel.
