About the Item
A very rare and wonderful necklace and matching earrings, set in a soft gilt metal, with amethyst glass faceted cabuchons set all over, tapering to a screw clasp at the back of the necklace, the colouring being graduated from a light amethyst to deep, rich purple. The reverse side of this necklace is a work of art in itself! Lying beautifully flat when worn, this magical set is attributed to Jeanne Lanvin, whose chic and inventive designs in the 1920s, were (and still are) some of the most beautiful being produced in haute couture at the time.
A similar necklace and earrings are pictured on p.168 of 'Bijoux' by Deanna Farnetti Cera, and similar designs are pictured on page 20 and 21 of 'Costume Jewellery for Haute Couture' by Florence Muller.
