Persica Necklace 18ct white gold, Diamonds 10.36ct, 13 Conch Pearls, 13 South Sea Pearls The Persica Necklace is the centrepiece of the Hidden Garden Collection and draws inspiration from the peach blossom (prunus persica) and the Art Deco era. The focus of this suite is the conch pearl, a favourite gem for Sarah. This unusual pearl is incredibly hard to find due to its rareity: it took over two years to find enough of these particular triangular shapes for this design. The porcelain like pinks, peaches and pale yellows, fondly known as the ‘tutti frutti’ colours, add a unique colour palette to this suite. In Chinese Taoist mythology, the peach blossom is a symbol of long life, good luck and intense love and conch pearls represent infinity, resulting in a powerful masterpiece both visually and symbolically. Conch pearls are a type of non-nacreous pearl from a gastropod mollusc. All pearls are formed by an irritant that is trapped in the soft lining of a shell - usually in a bivalve shell, such as an oyster, layers of nacre cover this irritant to form a pearl. In a gastropod, these are shells that are coiled, such as that of a snail, the irritant causes the calcium carbonate and conchiolin to build up forming these brightly colored, chatoyant gems. (Chatoyant is the optical reflective effect - like that of a cats eye or silk) The crystalline microstructure reacts beautifully with the light - creating a “flame” across the surface. Natural Pearls are rare, but conch pearls are incredibly rare - they are produced by Queen Conch Snails in the Caribbean. About one in every 10,000 conch shells produce a pearl, and only about 10% of these are of gem quality. The Hidden Garden Collection is a personal reflection of the beautiful flowers that have come to represent special moments and tender memories throughout her life. From the lilies that graced Sarah’s childhood home to the peony in her wedding bouquet, they have inspired and added to the sentimental nature of each piece. Sarah takes influence from botanical illustration, Art Deco motifs and her Chinese heritage. The rare and precious stones take centre stage, highlighting the intrinsic beauty of the natural world. The designs play with delicate lines, repeating patterns and contrasting elements in this elegant, one-of-a-kind collection. An exuberant celebration of design, rare pearls, gemstones and diamonds; Sarah Ho showcases her bold and feminine creations at her Mayfair showroom and at international exhibitions and trunk shows. Having grown-up in Macau, Sarah moved to London to study fashion and jewelry design. Her interest in jewelry was ignited by the jewel collections of the iconic women in her family. Sarah went on to study gemmology in Antwerp, preparing her to launch her fine jewelry company in 2006. The gemstones and diamonds take precedence in each of Sarah’s designs; whether it be an array of faceted and cabochon stones with diamond capped beads, Paraiba tourmalines graduating from sea green to sky blue or the ring with the rare natural rainbow pearl amidst the rose cut diamonds. Sarah hand-paints each design concept, dreaming-up alluring color combinations and striking silhouettes. Romantic and contemporary arrangements of pearls, diamonds and gems are crafted in to vibrant motifs with her signature enamel patterns, lacework and precious beads; culminating in to a unique and remarkable jewel. Often led by the stone for the design, Sarah takes care to source her gems responsibly and ethically - whether it’s charitable initiatives or reimagining an old piece.
