About

Sixteenth to seventeenth century gold, enamel and natural pearl dog pendant, in the form of a hound with a natural pearl body, the natural pearl measuring approximately 8mm in diameter, and green enameled collar, with second natural pearl suspended from the top, the body showing traces of white enamel. Accompanied by a fitted box from S.J. Phillips of London. 1.4" length and 0.9" width at widest point.

Pendants of human, animal, or mythical figures were popularly worn by both men and women from the mid-sixteenth into the seventeenth century. They often incorporate evocatively-shaped baroque pearls as part of the figure's body.
