Antique Bulla 18 Karat Yellow Gold Lapis Lazuli Cabochon Etruscan Style Pendant
About the Item
Centered on a round lapis lazuli cabochon, the frame beaded on the obverse and reverse. It opens on the back with a flap bearing the inscription AEI and leaving a circular space. The tubular belly is gadrooned.
The applied reverse of the letters "A E I" surrounded by a laurel wreath, symbolizing in Greek and Roman mythology the wisdom and the glory; and it was gifted in the Ancient Greece to the winners in poetry and sports competitions. (Greek for "forever")
It is an object with Etruscan culture origins, but immediately adopted by Romans. Firstly used as an amulet. Realized in gold, it presents a delicate filigree decoration.
