Antique Jade Chinese Pendant circa Late 18th to Early 19th Century Qing Dynasty

About the Item

A very large hand-carved natural untreated Burmese jade pendant circa the late 18th to early 19th century Qing Dynasty. A very rare and unique size! China directly controlled the Central Asian jade-yielding regions of Hotan and Yarkand between about 1760 and 1820, during which time much fine nephrite was sent to Beijing for carving. Jadeite from Myanmar (Burma) reached the capital from the second quarter of the 18th century, and chromite- or graphite-flecked “spinach jade” from the Baikal region of Siberia was imported in the 19th century. The finest Qing dynasty jade carving is often assigned to the reign of Qianlong, but carved jade is difficult to date. Typical of what is considered of Qianlong date are vases with lids and chains carved from a single block, vessels in antique bronze shapes with pseudo-archaic decoration, fairy mountains, and brush pots for the scholar’s desk. The pendant measures approximately 3.5" long by 2.2" wide and is 7/16" thick (90mm x 58mm x 11mm), weighing 134.5 grams. There is a slight asymmetry to the carving expected for a rare hand-carved antique pendant. This unique jadeite pendant is in excellent condition. It is hand-carved and hands polished. This jadeite selected for carving has the rare color "moss on snow." Moss-in-snow jade is a rare and beautiful shade of jade highly valued by collectors. This auspicious jadeite amulet is a one-of-a-kind antique of heirloom quality. It would make the perfect gift for someone special or any admirer of rare antique jade.
