About the Item
A beautiful antique Victorian era mourning locket.
It is finely hand carved from inky black Whitby Jet, domed at the front with the engraved letters AEI which stand for Amity Eternity Infinity.
This was a popular motif in Victorian jewellery in both mourning and other jewellery, mostly found on lockets or pendants.
It was thought to derive from the Greek meaning for now and forever or always and signifying eternal love.
The reverse has a glazed panel containing a spray of hair secured with gold thread and the locket has a chunky jet bale so ready to hand from a nice black ribbon or velvet choker.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, signs of use and wear commensurate with age, light surface wear.
