The jade carving you see here is no ordinary jade carving. It is a variety of jade known as kosmochlor jade. What, you ask, is kosmochlor jade? Well, it is also known as chromium jadeite. And chromium is the chemical element that gives jadeite its legendary emerald-green coloring. Chromium also gives South American emeralds their legendary emerald green coloring. Chromium jadeite is like jade with an extra helping of green. It's intensely colored jade that is also intensely beautiful. The jade carving has been certified by Stone Group Labs to be untreated kosmochlor jade from Burma. As the lab certificate explains, "Jadeite, Omphacite and Kosmochlor are distinct yet closely related minerals, commonly intergrown. Western countries refer to all as jade and by their more specific names when identification is possible. In Asia, they may all be collectively referred to as Fei Cui. Kosmochlor may also be referred to as chromium jadeite." The 14K yellow gold pendant dates to the 1940s and the hand-carved jade depicts flowers, a coin, and what I believe is fungi.
