A delicate emerald and clear paste pendant necklace, Christian Dior, 1970s
About the Item
A charming and delicate drop necklace made by Henkel and Grosse for Christian Dior in the 1970s. A very fine chain, with a clasp that can be varied in length to suit the wearer, continues to a V shaped clear paste pendant with a beautiful 'emerald' and clear paste drop suspended at the bottom. The faux emerald even has inclusions within the glass, as usually found in real emeralds. And it comes with its original covers, both bearing the Christian Dior logo.
With an elegance and finery, this is a highly wearable and classic piece of Dior.
Christian Dior was born into a wealthy family in 1905, being raised in the Normandy seaside town of Granville. Working first for Robert Piguet and then for Lucien Lelong as a head designer, during the war years, he then opened his own couture house in 1947. His now highly celebrated and iconic first collection ‘Corolle’ caused a sensation, and is now known by its more famous name ‘New Look’. From the very beginning of this couture house, jewellery played a very prominent part in his collections, initially recalling brighter and more romantic times, for example, the pomp and grandeur of the 18th century , its femininity and glamour, and later moving into extravagant experiments with Austrian stones and paste, throughout the late 1950s until the 1970s. Yves Saint Laurent , followed by Marc Bohan, continued the unique style pioneered by Christian Dior after his death. The fashion house goes from strength to strength today, with the wonderful visionary Maria Grazia Chiuri at the helm.
