Early Victorian French 2.00 Total Carat Diamond Padlock and Key Pendant

About the Item

An absolutely exquisite diamond padlock pendant from the early Victorian (ca1850) era! Created in France, this piece is crafted in 18kt yellow gold and sterling silver to create a stunning mixed metals appeal. The front surface of the working padlock is encrusted with sparkling diamonds and features an open keyhole and key at the center to release and lock the handle. The vast majority of the pavé set stones are old Mine Cuts, however, the ensemble also includes a few old Rose Cut diamonds, including two at the base of the handle in a bezel setting. The sparkling stones weigh approximately 2.00ctw combined, and catch the light brilliantly with every turn. The key features two delicate round cutouts on the handle, and can be removed once the padlock is fully locked or unlocked, as desired. The handle and back of the piece both feature a smoothly polished yellow gold finish, and stamped along the front of the handle are two French touchmarks of an owl and swan to indicate the purity of the metals. It's an absolutely stunning piece that would look fabulous hanging from a favorite chain or acting as the clasp that fastens a watch chain together. This early Victorian pendant merges effortlessly into modern fashion, and would make a perfect piece worn day or night! The padlock pendant measures approximately 1 1/4" tall, about 7/8" wide, and is about 1/4" thick with the key removed, and 1/2" thick with the key inserted at the center.

Wear consistent with age and use. The overall condition of the pendant is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold and silver setting. All of the diamonds are intact and securely set. The locking mechanism, handle, and key are in working order.
