Early Victorian Swiss Enamel Necklace and Earring Set

About the Item

Swiss Enamel pieces were commonly produced to be sold as souvenirs for Victorian travelers. A very fine type of enameling, this technique used very intricate detail and often portrayed scenic Swiss Alps villages with streams, mountains and wonderful homes and churches. The pieces were often set in a hollow frame making them very light and comfortable to wear. It is unusual to see, but real gemstones were sometimes incorporated into a Swiss Enameled design. These rare pieces are very collectable and absolutely beautiful in person. An incredible Swiss Enamel necklace and earring set from the early Victorian (1850) era! This fabulous 2-piece set consists of an ornate link necklace and complementary earrings. Each piece is crafted of rich 14kt yellow gold and carries a vibrant multi-colored enameled design with a stunning floral motif. The necklace is comprised of 4 prominent links which have a flowing, scalloped design and a surface covered in brilliantly colored blooming enameled flowers and leaves. Alternating with the larger links are smaller, more simple links featuring small flowers, bright turquoise stones, and rich foliate motifs. Dangling from the center is a removable pendant link that adds a dramatic look, perfectly completing the stunning appeal. Vibrant turquoise stones are set within the necklace, creating a beautiful, colorful contrast and the large link found at the back of the necklace conceals a secure clasp, allowing the piece to be seamlessly worn along the neckline. Each earring carries a complementary Swiss Enamel design. They hang long and dramatic and have a large scalloped-framed link that dangles from the base. The links have a fabulous multi-colored enameled surface with a floral motif that varies slightly between both ears, each hanging from a harmonious Swiss enamel surmount. A cluster of turquoise stones, which mimic the appearance of a bunch of grapes, are set in sterling silver at the base of each, perfectly completing the wonderful design. This incredibly gorgeous set would be a fabulous and special addition to any collection! Each earring hangs approximately 3" long, is 1" wide and 1/4" thick. The necklace measures approximately 17.25" long. The larger links measure approximately 2 1/4" wide, 1 1/8" tall and 3/16" deep and the pendant hangs 1 1/2" from the bottom of the central link.

Wear consistent with age and use. The overall condition of the set is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, including a couple of minor chips in the floral motif of one of the earring's enameling, there is no serious damage to the set and all of the turquoise stones are intact.
