Livio Bevilacqua 1967 Op Art Geometric Pendant Necklace in 18Kt Gold and Lapis

About the Item

An op art necklace designed by Livio Bevilacqua. Gorgeous sculptural piece of Op-Art, created in Vicenza Italy at the jewelry atelier of the master Livio Bevilacqua, back in the late 1960's. This unusual piece of wearable art, has been carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with brushed patterns and elements in white gold with high polished finish. The artistic composition is made up of several geometric elements in three dimensions inspired by the Habitat of Montreal inaugurated in 1967. These are superimposed on each other creating an optical illusion, which is accentuated by the high polished finishes on one side and the rustic burnished on the other side, creating movement and great contrast. HABITAT 67, or simply Habitat, is a brutalism style housing complex at Cité du Havre, on the Saint Lawrence River, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, designed by Israeli-Canadian architect Moshe Safdie. It originated in his master's thesis at the School of Architecture at McGill University and then an amended version was built for Expo 67, a World's Fair held from April to October 1967. Its address is 2600 Avenue Pierre-Dupuy, next to the Marc-Drouin Quay. Habitat 67 is considered an architectural icon, landmark and a recognized building in Montreal. Gemstones: Embellished with one oval flat (38 x 52 x 4 mm) element, carved from natural blue lapis lazuli. Attached from the back with two screws. Weight: 50.35 Grams, (32.25 Dwt). Measurements: The drop oval pendant is 72 mm by 40 mm (2.83 x 1.57 Inches). The chain is 22 Inches (56 Cm). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the Italian gold mark and signed, "LIVIO BEVILACQUA / BALESTRA ITALY 18KT 207 VI .750". Note: The jewelry atelier of Livio Bevilacqua was founded in September 2 1956 and was located in Via Monte Zebio Vicenza Italy, the operations was ceased exactly in December 31 1971. Note: Brutalist architecture is an architectural style and art movement that emerged during the 1950s in the United Kingdom, among the reconstruction projects of the post-war era. Brutalist buildings are characterized by minimalist constructions that show the materials of bare construction and structural elements over decorative design. The style commonly makes use of exposed, unpainted concrete or brick, angular geometric forms, and a predominantly monochrome color palette, other materials are also included, such as steel, wood and glass. Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of this necklace is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. The lapis lazuli is secured in the settings. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity. INVENTORY REF: N111222AOEM/1.209
