Morganite Gemstone Pendant in Gold 14 Carats

About the Item

This is 14.5 carats of deep, faceted oval violet-pink Morganite. Do we all know the story of Morganite? In case we don't, here goes: Morganite is the same mineral as emerald and aquamarine -beryl- but when it comes in pink to orange-pink it’s called Morganite after J.P. Morgan, the 19th-century financier who ruled Wall Street during the American Gilded Age. His home in Manhattan was the first to have electricity. He owned the ship Titanic and was a great collector of things and things and more things including gems. He loved this pink beryl so much it was named after him. This particular specimen would certainly have met with Mr. Morgan's approval and it would have looked wonderful under his buzzing electric lights. It's large, just the way he liked things: 14.5 carats, which works out to 15.63 mm x 14.40 mm x 11.31 mm. It’s the size of ash acorn. This large gem features 70 facets and no apparent errors. The only little abrasions are on the girdle: who cares? (Ugly word, good place for tiny nicks.) The glittering pastel gem holds court in its 14k yellow gold basket. I'm including a chain that I think works well with it but the bail has an opening of at least 3.75 mm so many chains would work. I love this particular stone because Morganites have recently become intense and peachy and almost orange. This one is a stunning natural pale pink, as it ought to be. It's got quite a lot of fire and sparkle and the older-style cut has so much character. I really love that it's not dainty; you don't need a magnifying glass to see it. But it's also not one of those huge monster gems—I'm looking at you, London blue topaz—that just kind of pushes you back. This gem is alluring and it pulls the viewer closer. It would be amazing against a soft white sweater or top. Also against bare skin. Or black. And it would leap off grass-green. It weighs 5 grams, 11 grams with the chain, which is a very good vintage 18" chain of British origin. If you have a Morganite engagement ring this would be the perfect compliment.
