About the Item
An 18 karat yellow gold mid-century 1960's pre-Columbian Tolima pendant set with an emerald. The symmetrical pendant has engraved details and a gold satin finish. The pendant can also be worn as a brooch.
This pendant in the Tolima style, comes originally from Colombia's Magdalena's Valley (1st - 7th century). The Tolima gold objects known today are from undocumented finds primarily made by local people. In a limited range of shapes, they are almost flat and have strong, symmetrical outlines. Their distinct and identifiable forms verge on abstraction. However, human details are included in aspects of the face and slender nose. The Tolima pendant spread "wings" have been related to both birds and bat imagery.
The brooch pendant is in very good condition and of high quality. Hallmark is present and visible at the back of the brooch.
