About the Item

This necklace is made by her self in her own workshop way before she made these for Georg Jensen. This was bought in France in 1955 so it is most certainly made in 1954-55. Made with silver and a moonstone drop pendant. Both parts are marked "TORUN" and with French "crab" mark. One mark is very indistinct. Good condition, no issues. Pendant is 6.8cm long and 1.7cm wide. The diameter of the necklace is 14-15cm. Vivianna Torun Bulow-Hube (Swedish 1927 - 2004). As a young girl, she had visited the workshops of famous Swedish silver designers Wiwen Nilsson and Sigurd Persson. They made a great impression on her. She began at the National College of Craft and Design in Stockholm 1945. A few years later she became the first female silversmith in the world to open her own workshop. In 1948 she went to Paris where she met icons like Picasso (see included image), Braque and Matisse. During her time in France, she made jewelry for (among others) Billy Holiday (see included image), Ingrid Bergman and Brigitte Bardot. Torun's jewelry was displayed at the Galerie du Siecle in St Germain-des-Pres. She also displayed her jewelry at famous Firma Svenskt Tenn in Stockholm. She never used valuable gemstones, preferring instead granite, pebble rock crystal, moonstone, mother of pearl, horn, and quartz. In 1967 she began to work for Georg Jensen in Denmark. Torun's jewelry was inspired by natural shapes such as leaves, flowers, swirls and the flow of water. It is described as minimalist, sober and simple. Torun has gained acclaim for her ability to shape seemingly solid materials into flexible forms in jewelry.
