About the Item
The influence of the Empire for objects in classical antique manner is still felt in this elegant silver spice box designed in the shape of an amphora on a pedestal with two handles. The handles are decorated with a grooved pattern.. The dome shaped lid is decorated with a raised flower lid. The lid of the amphora is engraved with a double row of wave lines and above it another row of zigzag pattern. the edges of lid and amphora are embellished with a row of raised small squares. beaded rim The front of the amphora is decorated with a round facetted garnet, the pedestal features a square hinged compartment. the lid of the compartment is hallmarked. The spice box was a wedding or wedding anniversary gift and is engraved with stippled initials and a date: H.P.L. 1834 K.N.D.
