St. Louis Antique French Enamel Gold Crystal Liquor or Aperitif Service 7 pc Antique French Saint Louis crystal liquor or aperitif service, circa 1908. Comprising of a liquor decanter and 6 cordial glasses. Fine quality crystal, patterned with intricate engraving and gilded accents. This model is illustrated in the Saint Louis catalog for 1908, page 39, number 729. The carafe retains its faceted stopper topped by a gold star. These pieces are unmarked, made prior to the acid etched mark first used by the firm in 1936. Like Baccarat, the Saint Louis cristallerie marked their wares with a paper label prior to their acid etched branding and these old paper labels were often lost, washed away or worn with time. The exquisite quality of the engraved patterns and rich gilded accents make this set quite extraordinary. One of the most prestigious crystal brand : St Louis The Crystal Saint Louis is the oldest manufacturer of Crystal of Europe ( 1586 ). By letters patent dated 1767, Louis XV gave Münzthal the prestigious name of Verrerie Royale de Saint-Louis (Saint-Louis Royal Glassworks). Fifteen years later, the formula for producing crystal was discovered by François de Beaufort. The Verrerie Royale de Saint-Louis was renamed the Cristallerie Royale de Saint-Louis.
