French Silver Birth Stork Scissors Swaddled Baby 19th Century Birth Announcement

This is a rare pair of antique 19th Century Silver Birth Announcement Stork Scissors with a swaddled baby infant in the body of the stork. The Silver birth stork scissors served as a birth announcement and were used to cut the umbilical cord. The scissors date to the 19th Century. The scissors were placed on the chimney mantle according to tradition. Thus, if the lady of the house was expecting, then everyone could see. The scissors are adorned with a swaddled baby in the belly of the stork. These scissors were also used to cut the umbilical cord after birth. The scissors are hallmarked with 800 for 800 silver with a makers mark and the French Swan silver mark. What a wonderful gift for your beloved who is expecting! The stork stands up on its leg. The stork is 4 1/2 inches (11 cm) tall. The scissors weigh 39 grams.
