Liberty & Co Turquoise Cymric Pattern Six Piece Dresser Set 1903 Sterling Silver

About the Item

This is a gorgeous and very rare Museum Quality Liberty & Co. Sterling Silver and Turquoise Cymric Pattern Six-Piece Dresser Set from the estate of legendary philanthropist and collector Jacqueline Loewe Fowler, whose jewels are in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Arts and Crafts period set is fully hallmarked for Liberty and Co, CYMRIC and for Birmingham, 1903-4. The set comprises a circular hairbrush, two oblong brushes, a shoe horn, a button hook, and a glove stretcher, each set with cabochon turquoise. The pieces are each marked and the number is 5184. The shoe horn, button hook and glove stretcher have turquoise cabochons on both sides. It is very rare to find the jeweled Liberty and Co. pieces. Here we have a complete Dresser Set and adorned with Turquoise! The length of the brush is 9 inches. The glove stretcher is separated. The pieces are marked L & Co. CYMRIC with full hallmarks for Birmingham 1903-1904. Provenance: From the Estate of the esteemed collector and philanthropist Jacqueline Loewe Fowler whose collections are featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as many others. From the New York Times: It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Jacqueline Loewe Fowler. She was a true original with an extraordinary eye, an exacting intellect, and deep humility. Her interests were wide-ranging, and her generosity to museums legendary. To the Metropolitan Museum of Art, her gifts and promised gifts numbered more than four hundred, enhancing the holdings of the American Wing and many other departments. As a collector, Jackie was fiercely independent, distinguished by her love of progressive design. She exuded great style, enriching not only the Museum's collections but also the lives of the curators whom she befriended. She will be sorely missed. The store soon became the most fashionable place to shop in London, featuring luxurious wares including fabrics, clothing, furniture, clocks, jewelry, wallpapers and decorative objects of all kinds. • Antique Italian Pink Coral and Sterling Silver Letter Opener
    Located in Roma, IT
This silver and antique coral letter opener was handmade by our talented goldsmiths, who used a coral branch from Sciacca, the Sicilian town famous for its corals. The Sciacca Coral has unique origins in the world: it is closely tied to the exceptional history of the Ferdinandea Island, which is a submerged volcanic island in the Strait of Sicily, between Pantelleria and Sciacca. As of today the summit of the Ferdinandea Island remains between about 6 and 8 meters below the Mediterranean Sea level. Its most recent appearance as an island was in July 1831. In the late 1831, in a shoal (called later ”Bummolo” by the fishermen of Sciacca) located around 30 miles from Sciacca, a new island emerged in a fiery hell from the depths of the Strait of Sicily. However, one year later, the island sank back beneath the waters and definitely disappeared in the Strait of Sicily. Over time, thanks to the exceptional microclimate determined by the frequent volcanic phenomena along the slopes of the submerged volcano, huge coral...
