About the Item
Mount Rainier, the Ghost Mountain. Even when she's shrouded in cloud, her weighty presence can be felt throughout the Pacific Northwest. As glorious, life-giving, and terrifying as any goddess, this active volcano is the most glacier rich peak in the US and is the source of five major rivers.
In this ring, Mount Rainier's distinct silhouette is immortalized in 18k yellow gold. Set at the mountain's heart is a .74 carat untreated natural Montana sapphire, as clear blue/green as the mountain lakes in summer or the depths of a glacial crevasse in winter.
Every component of this ring comes from the United States. The stunning sapphire was sourced at the Gem Mountain mine in Philipsburg, Montana and was cut here in Washington State by an artisan gem cutter. The band was hand crafted by Mary Elizabeth of Glitter and Gold Studio using the lost wax casting technique with 100% recycled gold from a refiner in Upstate New York.
The classic style of "Rainier" and the substantial weight of the durable 18k gold will mean years of comfortable, worry-free wear, and enduring value and luster.
This ring is a size 7, and can be sized up or down 2 sizes at no additional charge. Smaller and larger sizes are also available at no extra charge.

Glitter and Gold Studio
Glitter & Gold may be new (I opened my doors December 2021), but I’m not new to the art of creating custom jewelry. In 1994, starting out as an apprentice for my uncle at Foxfire Jewelers, I swept floors and washed the walls, working my way up to jewelry repair and then custom creation. I began building my craft as a custom jewelry designer, spending tens of thousands of hours “on the bench,” learning to fix, design, ethically source materials and gems, and ultimately create high-quality jewelry that stands the test of time. I’ve been lucky to have spent my entire career as a goldsmith working exclusively with and for small custom design studios, including Blue Heron Jewelry, Goldmine Design, MJB Jewelers, Scholdt, and more. It was a combined catalyst of the pandemic and my 50th birthday that fueled the spark to finally pursue my dream of opening my own studio — one where I could invite clients in to experience the art of creating unique and meaningful jewelry. Using 100% recycled precious metals, ethically sourced gemstones and diamonds, and focusing on small businesses as my vendors I’m able to make custom jewelry that supports our heart and home. Outside of creating unique hand crafted jewelry, I enjoy roller skating, gardening, face time “dates” with my daughter away at college, and spending time with my family. I live on beautiful Bainbridge Island, and love my ferryboat commute to work every day! I also run a delightful little Hobbit House Airbnb in our backyard!
