Rosior may well be the best Portuguese brand you’ve never heard of: renowned within royal, collectors’, and high-society circles for its exquisite bespoke jewellery and precious heirloom creations, Rosior has operated for more than 40 years through the esteemed and almost secretive ‘word-of-mouth’ recommendations of its loyal clientele. Rosior was founded by José Manuel Rosas in 1978, but to fully appreciate the heritage of this pioneering brand, one must go back generations, to 19th century Porto and the year 1890, when J.M. Rosas’ grandfather established Rosas de Portugal: the cornerstone of a new era in Portugal’s goldsmithing industry. Honouring his family’s knowledge, experience and tradition while simultaneously heeding the call of his entrepreneurial, innovative and creative spirit, J.M Rosas made the bold decision to set up Rosior. And an evolved legacy was born… From 1978, Rosior spent five years working as an outsourced producer for Cartier and Tiffany’s & Co. among others: a period of great learning – in terms of quality control, rigour and exactitude – that supported J.M Rosas’ quest for excellence and perfectionism. In the early 1990s, on the back of this valuable experience and exposure, J.M Rosas discovered his own passion for designing ‘haute jewellery’ and produced his first collection in platinum. As his fascination for jewels and gemstones grew, he began to experiment with colourful creations and the brand’s signature style started to take shape.
