About the Item

Think of the rich, royal blue of Kate Middleton's Ceylon sapphire engagement ring. To many people, that's the perfect—the only—color for a sapphire ring. This is *not* Kate Middleton's Ceylon sapphire engagement ring. This is a Victorian-era Montana sapphire engagement ring that refuses to be pinned down to one color and one color only. Sapphires from Montana (did you even know Montana *had* sapphires?) are unlike any others on the planet. While they are found in different colors, I find Montana sapphires to have a melancholy quality to their distinctive coloring. They are usually pale and must be heat-treated to achieve a rich saturated tone. Frequently, they are very small. This Montana sapphire is extraordinary for three reasons: it is GIA-certified to be unheated. At 7.98 mm x 7.08 mm x 6.75 mm, it tips the scales quite over at 3.14 carats. And it's a color-change sapphire, its hues somewhat difficult to pin down. It is steely navy blue at times, then a sky blue. Look again and you will see it is emerald-green. Look again, and is it purple? And wait: was that a flash of red? This is hands-down the most complex, complicated, moody, charismatic and beautiful sapphire I have ever had the privilege to own. I am so taken with this incredibly rare gemstone that it's easy for me to overlook the magnificent Victorian setting of 14k yellow gold and featuring twenty-eight very fine old mine-cut diamonds of H-I color and VS to SI1 clarity. In total they weigh approximately 1.30ct. So we have a Victorian sapphire and diamond cluster ring with a total gemstone weight of nearly 4.5 carats. It is gorgeous from every angle and in every imaginable lighting situation. Old mine-cut diamonds have infinitely more character than the knife-sharp sparkle of modern brilliants. The old mine-cut is just plain sexy. These diamonds look ravishing by candlelight or incandescent bulbs. In dimly lit rooms they somehow gather up all the available light and then splinter and shatter it out across the surface of the ring to nothing less than dazzling effect. If you want an engagement ring like no other; one that is vastly superior—in my humble opinion—to 99% of them, here it is. If you want a colorful, glamorous, ever-changing ring that was born fashionable and will never be anything but the height of fashion, this is for you. And if you want a ring so rare, so precious that you will never encounter another like it, here it is. Every jewelry store in every mall in every country of the world has a replica of Kate Middleton's sapphire engagement ring. Only I have this one. And it's only for you.
