Vintage 3 Carat Black Opal Diamond Cluster Ring

About the Item

Black opals are among the most rare and valuable of all natural opal varieties. Unlike their common opal counterparts, they have a dark canvas and radiate brilliant flashes of colors due to their subtle iron oxide and carbon properties. Although a portion of the world's opals are mined in Ethiopa, most originate in Australia (particularly from a region known as "Lightening Ridge") and the opal has henceforth been named Australia's national stone. Historically, opals were believed to bring good luck when given as a gift. In the modern day, they continue to be adored worldwide and are one of the most desirable stones used in fine jewelry! A breathtaking black opal and diamond ring from the 1950s! This exquisite vintage ring is made of 14kt gold, and displays an impressive black opal at the center, weighing approximately 3.00ct. The prong-set stone is simply mesmerizing, exhibiting a dark canvas with with iridescent flashes of green, blue, and violet. The resulting color play resembles glittering flecks suspended below the surface, as though floating within the stone. Surrounding the opal are 16 European Cut diamonds, forming a sparkling halo border. Collectively, the diamonds weigh approximately 1.00ctw, and have estimated H-I range color, and VS1-VS2 range clarity. Completing the design is a smooth, tapered gold band, which is stamped "14K" inside the shank. This magnificent ring looks incredible when worn, and would make an outstanding addition to any opal lover's collection! The ring currently has a small finger size of 3.75, but could easily be re-sized if desired. The opal and diamond centerpiece measures 3/4" tall, 5/8" wide, and 3/8" thick. The tapered gold band measures 2mm wide at the back.

Wear consistent with age and use. The overall condition of the ring is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold setting and the black opal and diamonds are all intact.
