18 Karat Diamond Tiara Ring
About the Item
From a local New Orleans estate, this Diamond Tiara Ring features 74 Colorless Nearly Flawless to Slightly Included Round Brilliant cuts ranking an E-F Color & VVS2-SI1 totaling approximately 1 carat. Accented with finely detailed Milgrain beadwork as well as Hand Engraving throughout in fan-patterned designs. Attributed to Mardi Gras here in New Orleans, originally intended as a Queen's presentation ring.
Elaborate rings such as this one were used in tradition as early as the late 1800s from the King to the Queen [the first being Comus & Momus] .. Tiaras and Crowns first became popular in jewelry in the 18th century. The jewelers at the time were inspired by the ancient Greek and Roman wreaths, where the Tiara design [as well as the continuous eternity band design] derives from. This particular ring, inspired by the work of the French goldsmiths, exemplifies extremely detailed hand tooling as well as Diamonds set with old world goldsmith techniques. In European cultures, mainly the French, tiara rings were also used as Engagement Rings. Most tiaras in the Victorian era were constructed of Yellow Gold with Silver as a contrasting White metal accent, this one being quite unique in White Gold.
Not limited to royalty, but the ruler of an empire, whether Female or Male.
Stamped "750" inside shank.
