About the Item

Pink sapphire and diamond ring, 1920s. The pink sapphire at the centre of this ring is blessed with both an unusual and attractive early 20th century geometric cut, and a beautiful magenta body colour. Pink sapphires, like rubies, are coloured by chromium, and as both are varieties of corundum, all that separates the two stones is the subtlety of its colour. This example weighing approximately 4.00 carats is of Burmese origin, and was undoubtedly mined alongside some of the world’s best ruby deposits. Unusually for sapphires and rubies, this stone has not been heat treated, meaning its colour and clarity are entirely natural – a rare feat for any stone. With a border of single-cut diamonds accentuating its geometric outline and a hand-made mount, this effortlessly elegant ring is a superb example of pre-war jewellery design.
