Precious Plastic Jewels - Art Jewels
Margherita Burgener's creations are born in an artisan workshop in Valenza, birthplace of Italian high jewelry. Every jewel of the brand - 100% made in Italy - tells the special alchemy arose from the encounter between the tradition of the master goldsmith of the family workshop and the eclectic and curious creativity of Emanuela Burgener, since 2003 soul and art director of the brand.
Since then the jewels she created have been sold at auction in all major auction houses, including Phillips, Sotheby's, Christie's, Bonhams, Adam's and Artcurial.
In the workshop of Valenza, Emanuela personally takes care with unchanged passion the creation of jewelry, always inspired by the magic of the stones that represent the heart of her creations. Over the years she has experimented with new forms and new unconventional materials in high jewelry such as titanium with which he creates jewels of incredible lightness and plasticity with iridescent colors.
In 2019 Emanuela's creative path intersects with Enrica Borghi, the Italian artist shot to fame in the ‘80s with her sculptures created from novel materials - fake nails from displays, plastic bottles and even on occasion kitchen rags. The reuse of material has been central to Borghi’s artistic creations which inspires a thought-provoking commentary on the reimagined beauty of such objects and what is considered ‘waste’ in today’s society.
Both Borghi and Burgener were born in the same small village of Macugnaga, at the foot of Mount Rosa in Northern Italy. Their professional partnership allowed them to revisit their childhood memories and draw from their shared environment growing up when exploring new design concept.
From their creative partnership in 2020 the first "Precious Plastic" jewelry collection was born.
Inspiration for the new jewellery line “Achillea” was found in shared recollections of hiking in the nearby mountains to harvest the flower Achillea (Yarrows in English). Achillea tells a story, a dialogue between artisanal tradition, precious metals, everyday materials, sustainably and the love for the environment. It has been a unique opportunity to explore her ambition to combine waste materials and precious metals.
"Achillea and precious plastic is our suggestion to appreciate every single detail of the nature and our precious and beautiful word. Treasure it and safe it. Our ‘Precious Plastic’ project has those meanings. That’s why we are so proud of it!"
The ‘Precious Plastic’ jewels had been exhibited in 2021 @ Castello di Govone – Piedmont, Langhe region. The Govone Castle is a World Heritage building of UNESCO. Catalogue is available

ABOUT
Emanuela Burgener, the designer under the brand name MARGHERITA BURGENER, has a unique story. Her childhood and youth were spent surrounded by nature and its silence.
After her studies and working experience in Hotellerie and Tourism, in the ‘90s she moved to Valenza, the home of Italian high end jewellery, and began working for Damiani Group. She also spent time in the workshop of her future husband, where she developed a love of precious stones and jewellery design. Following her instincts, she enrolled in gemmology and goldsmithing courses.
In 2003 she created her first pieces of jewellery under her surname BURGENER and the name of her eldest daughter, MARGHERITA. It was the official beginning of the adventure. The first pieces were sold at auction by Phillips de Pury in Geneva (today named Phillips), to be followed by Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Artcurial, Poly Hong Kong, Adam’s and Hotel des Ventes Monaco. The philosophy behind them is always uniqueness, design and uncompromised quality.
In 2011 the limited edition Every Day Chic collection made its debut. As time went by, requests increased for the spectacular, one-off “custom made” pieces Emanuela creates for Italian and international customers.
Nowadays, she repeats the ancient gestures of craftsmen and their increasingly rare, valuable skills with undiminished passion in the family Italian workshop, supporting the value of the highest Made in Italy artisanal know how and work.
