Blue 15.62 Carat Star Sapphire Cabochon Platinum Ring with .90 Carats of Diamond

About the Item

Let me introduce myself to this one-of-a-kind melding of art and nature. In the early 1980’s. As a gemologist and designer craftsman, I cast a net to the nation’s gem dealers, searching for an extraordinary, rich blue, large, star sapphire cabochon for my personal use. I wished to turn this exciting gem into a signature piece that I would wear for advertising and on special occasions as an example of my work, never planning to sell it. The stars were aligned when destiny presented me with this totally natural, stary gem which pulled at my heart strings. This 15.62 carat star sapphire has a lovely, distinct full six-legged star which (like all such stars) is best seen in sunlight or incandescent light. (Most LEDS won’t pick up the star.) I left the one dark natural sapphire crystal underneath the stone exposed, that proves it’s genuine but does not detract from above. There are no major flaws or cracks, just beauty. It took me several years (shoemaker’s children) of dreaming of potential designs as I worked through a number of potential designs and revisions. Following my sketches and seat-of-the-pants wax carving, this one-of-a-kind design evolved which allows the ring to sit back on the hand to prevent turning and makes the finger appear longer. I added a sweep of .90 carats of fiery princess cut F-G/VS diamonds to reflect the dome of the translucent cabochon and to protect it. This diamond quality if far above that used in normal production pieces but was for my own pleasure. I also added curves to the platinum to further reflect the smoothness of the gem. The result is an ergonomically designed, comfortable showpiece which can be worn all day as well as for special occasions.
