French Qu'hier Que Demain 18 Karat Gold Charm Ring

About the Item

Once a lovely French Qu'hier charm, now converted to a very wearable ring. These French love tokens are so collectible and symbolize the growing love between two people - "plus qu’hier, moins que demain” which translates to "more than yesterday, less than tomorrow." This is a phrase from the French poet & playwright Rosemonde Gerard in a poem she wrote to her husband, Car, vois-tu, chaque jour je t’aime davantage, Aujourd’hui plus qu’hier et bien moins que demain which means "For, you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.” How wonderfully romantic - the plus and minus sign on the charm represent more and less from the poem. They are embellished with gemstones usually diamonds and rubies, the gemstones of love. In 1907 Alphonse Augis, a French jeweller was inspired by the poem and used the phrase to create his signature Medaille d'Amour.
