Royston turquoise sterling silver ring made by Navajo silversmith Ernest Begay

About the Item

Sterling silver ring by Navajo silversmith Ernest Ray Begay. A smooth bezel, twisted wire and bead wire focuses your attention on the 3/4” x 1” Royston turquoise stone. Ernest’s career in jewelry making didn’t really take off until he entered some exceptional pieces into the Navajo Nation Fair and the Gallup Intertribal Indian Ceremonial. He received many awards and ribbons, which helped him begin his career as jewelry artist. Hallmark: ERB Size: 8 3/4 Miners go to the Royston mine only twice per year. Royston was originally a tunnel mine, but is now an open pit. It is a good producer of high quality stones. According to one of the current miners, Royston turquoise is known as "grass roots", which means the best deposits are found within ten feet of the surface.
